Peachtree Battle Median Island Park | Ongoing

Peachtree Battle Alliance Neighborhood Improvement

The landscaped median islands along Peachtree Battle Avenue are among the neighborhood’s most recognizable public spaces. (Read about the History of Peachtree Battle) In 1932, the Habersham Garden Club adopted the median island between Habersham and Nacoochee. Over the years, the club has supported numerous improvements, including restoration of the stone bridge over the creek, installation of iron railings along the stairs, and replacement of aging trees. In the early 2000s, the Haynes Manor Garden Club adopted the west end of the Dellwood median park and continues to provide seasonal plantings and color.

Building on this long tradition of stewardship, the Peachtree Battle Alliance engaged Spencer Tunnell of Tunnell & Tunnell Landscape Architects to develop a comprehensive master plan for the median park. The plan will be implemented in phases, beginning with the entrance to the first median island at Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue. Former neighbor Alec Michaelides of Land Plus Associates and Board Member of Buckhead Heritage provided the landscape plan for the entrance to the median island park and the Lodge. The comprehensive plan is intended to restore and enhance the full median corridor, addressing areas that have long needed renewed investment while preserving the character of one of Atlanta’s most distinctive neighborhood streets.
